Reflections of a Confirmation Candidate

“I had often felt a little sheepish about discussing my
feelings about my faith with other people but that was
what the classes were there for: to discuss our
feelings on Christianity openly.”
real life stories:
    confirmation

I had felt the push to be confirmed for a while but had come to the thought that I wouldn’t be confirmed anytime soon as my school does not run a program like that and I knew there hadn’t been a confirmation in Reepham for several years. I was delighted when Christopher expressed an interest and started up confirmation classes.

I really enjoyed the classes: they enabled me to explore my faith and to learn more about the Christian religion, helping me bring Christianity into my everyday life. I had often felt a little sheepish about discussing my feelings about my faith with other people but that was what the classes were there for: to discuss our feelings on Christianity openly.

The service itself was really special. It was small with not too many people in the congregation but that gave the whole thing a cosy, family feel. My Auntie and Uncle came especially for the service and of course my immediate family were there too. I was a little disappointed that my Godparents could not come to the service but as my Godfather is the Dean of Lincoln cathedral, Sunday is a very busy day for him! There were 3 other people being confirmed but the service ran very smoothly and afterwards I enjoyed talking to the people who came and the Bishop of Lynn (who took the service) over sandwiches and cakes.

It was a lovely day that I will never forget. Since the service I have realised how much it meant to me to be confirmed in the town that I have lived in all my life and to have the service in the same church that I was baptised in. Not many people have that opportunity and it really shows that I have grown in the church family.

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make that happen!

Confirmation is the completion of Baptism. It is the sealing of the Baptismal covenant relationship, or spiritual marriage between the Christian and Christ.

To confirm means to strengthen. In Confirmation our faith is deepened and

strengthened, and through this sacrament we are more perfectly bound to Christ and

to his Church.

People who have been baptised may be confirmed provided they are old enough to renew for themselves the promises made for them at their baptism by their parents and godparents.
