Supportive, Colourful, Friendly and Relaxed - Just Some Words to Describe Godly Play

“We meet together, sing, listen, become part of the story
and wonder how it felt, before making something that
shows how we feel about the story.”

The Godly Play style of story telling uses plain wooden figures on a coloured underlay to help the children become part of the story. The stories are simply told and the figures moved to highlight the action. The story is followed by a time of wondering how the people involved, felt about what was going on around them.

This is at the core of our children’s worship which happens on the first and third Sundays of the month, in St Michael’s. We meet together, sing, listen, become part of the story and wonder how it felt, before making something that shows how we feel about the story, using pens, pencils, coloured paper, glue, play dough, clay or paint.  We gather for prayer before our ‘feast’ and join the congregation in St Mary’s at the altar rail for a blessing. Children of all ages are welcome to join us.

The Godly Play Team is made up of Rachel Richmond and Sue Cripps, story tellers, and Helena Crockford, Gloria Davies, Susie Hall, Natasha Osborne and Susan Reeve, welcomers.

It is hoped to develop other activities for children over the coming months.
