Reepham Benefice

Our lives are filled with endings and beginnings. We are now approaching the end of our church year. Advent starting in two weeks time is another beginning, is near. And in our worship today we are preparing for the new life that advent will bring. So we are asking God to be with us now and in all our endings.
In the first lesson we heard Daniel reassuring us that at the time of reckoning that tho it will be a time of anxiety, faithfulness to God will receive the reward and the protection of the Angels. And in the second lesson we heard Jesus warning us about the transience of the world. Our basic insecurity, he says tempts us to trust so often in the wrong people and risks our relationships with God. We must wait, says Jesus, not on human initiative, but on God’s.
And Daniel in the old testament is writing of a time ahead of destruction and turmoil. He said there will be a period of anguish such as never been known and yet, and yet, Daniel promises us that this time will bring a deep sense of joy. Those who have guided the people in the true path will be like stars forever and ever.
