Introduction
29th June
The sun has been shining for the past two days. The bees are busy on the lavender and the 2nd lot of blackbird chicks have fledged. Has summer come at last? Yes! Let's hope so! Its high June- …..time for Wimbledon and strawberries; school exams are over and many of us are waiting feverishly for those special  two weeks ahead of us, just around the corner. Hooray! Its nearly holiday time!! Holidays!
21st December
The dawning of a new year is a time for reflection and hope. Many people reflect on the year past, on how they might have done things better, on achievements and disappointments, and perhaps what they need to change in their lives.

Slade’s famous Christmas song is arguably one of the nation’s favourite at this time of year, and we could be forgiven for thinking, what on earth has this got to do with the birth of the Christ child? If you watch the video that accompanies this song, you will see a group of long haired pop stars from the 1970’s jumping around on stage whilst artificial snow is poured onto them and the audience.

This week sees many office parties taking place, as people begin to get into the festive spirit. With only a handful of days left to Christmas, the light shows on houses here in Reepham are becoming more spectacular by the day. Each evening as I walk back from Church I notice another house that is lit up with prancing reindeer, Santa’s climbing up ladders towards the roof and a vast array of twinkling lights.

The sight of snow falling , and settling in my garden a few weeks ago was a sight that filled us with wonder, each flake fluttering to earth to form a deep carpet of pure white over the trees and grass of the Rectory Lawn. We awoke to that most beautiful silence that often accompanies snow fall, with the pureness and newness that this sight brings.

Well, Advent is here, and we can’t get away from the sights, sounds and smells reminding us that Christmas is only around the corner. Bing Crosby’s classic Christmas song, White Christmas speaks of the romance surrounding the season that Advent looks forward to, and sums up what is for some the idea of a perfect Christmas...

Have you made your Christmas cake yet? Well if you haven’t the special prayer for this Sunday in the old 1662 prayer book has always been a reminder to do so. It begins with the words “Stir up, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people”. Now, you would be right in asking what on earth this prayer has to do with the recipe for fruit cake.

In one of our Bible readings last Sunday we heard the well known tale of the man who entrusted his servants with his money , only to find on his return that one of them had simply buried the sack of cash, digging it back up and handing it to his master, not a penny less, not a penny more. The other servants, to the delight of their master, had dabbled in the stock market, investment portfolios or by some other means had increased their masters wealth.

Remembrance Sunday. In many places in Great Britain, last weekend servicemen old and young gathered together with church members and the wider community to remember the fallen, who gave their lives in the service of their country. That poignant two minutes silence that takes place every year never ceases to move me, as I give thanks for the countless lives that have been lost throughout the world in armed conflict. The faces on the servicemen who were there tell the story, remembering friends and family, and the horrors of war.
