Time is passing on ever rapidly and before long it may well be the case that generations to come will not know anything of the men who gave their lives, paying the ultimate sacrifice in two World Wars, so that we may have our today. This is why we are launching our appeal - to rediscover the people behind the names on our war memorials.
This project was begun in the summer of 2008 and has already been successful in rediscovering the lives of three of the men remembered on the memorial in St Michael's Chancel, the Barber brothers who were born and lived in Reepham before joining up for the war effort in 1915. Thanks to Sally Barber, the grand-daughter of L/Cpl Leonard Henry Barber, we are now able to begin building a lasting record of photographs and memories on this website.

Before joining the war Leonard was a coachman, marrying Phyllis Allen in 1915. While Leonard’s body was never recovered, we have pieced together, through research and discussions with the family, the possible events that led up to his death. Explore for yourself the story of one man’s sacrifice and see the documents that tell a story of their own. more>
